Karel Appel

Karel Appel is one of the most famous Dutch post-war artists. He was also co-founder of the well-known and influential Cobra movement (1948-1951). After all, Cobra threw all the traditional rules in painting overboard and was therefore very controversial. Karel Appel’s work also symbolizes the Cobra movement. Spontaneous and colorful art, with ‘fantasy creatures’ and children as important subjects. Despite Karel Appel’s statement, ‘I just mess around with it’, it has become clear that this was not the case, and that what he did was well thought out. For us Karel Appel is a very important stimulus in our search for ‘energetic and catchy art’.

Bengt Karl Erik Lindström (September 3, 1925 – January 29, 2008) was one of Sweden’s best-known contemporary artists with a characteristic style of different colors, often including distorted faces. Lindström was influenced by and often based his work on the ethnic traditions of the Scandinavian world and Sámi culture. In his early period he was inspired by the work of De Kooning and later influenced by the paintings of the COBRA group. Throughout his life, exhibitions were held in Europe and the United States, earning him a solid reputation among the public and his peers. Bengt Lindström’s work is exhibited in museums around the world.

Lotti van der Gaag

We were pleased to purchase 2 works by Lotti van der Gaag.
She is considered part of the CoBrA movement, but at that time Corneille objected to her becoming a member of the Cobra movement and ultimately she never participated in joint exhibitions under this name.
Lotti van der Gaag is undeniably a multi-talented player. She was a sculptor, ceramist, painter and draftsman and practiced everything with equal creative energy and success. That is why we still want to give her this attention.

Picture Lotti van der Gaag. Born on December 18, 1923 in The Hague and died on February 19, 1999 Nieuwegein (Holland)

Victor Vasarely

Victor Vasarely (1906-1997) was born in Pécs (Hungary) as Győző Vásárhelyi.
Victor Vasarely became one of the leading figures of geometric abstract painting, also known as op art (optical art), which became widely known in Europe and America in the 1960s.
As a standard, Victor Vasarely worked with strong contrasts, initially in black and white, later also in colour. The effect of his lines and the way he uses them is that the impression is created that everything in the image plane starts to vibrate.
In his birthplace, the southern Hungarian city of Pécs, and in Budapest, both places have a museum dedicated to his life and work. A Vasarely museum is also located in the French Aix-en-Provence. Here the emphasis is on collaboration between art, architecture and urban design.
We hope you enjoy the beautiful Victor Vasarely works as much as we do.
