Corneille

Cornelis Guillaume van Beverloo, better known as Corneille was born on July 3, 1922 in Liège, Belgium and was a child of Dutch parents. He therefore has Dutch nationality, but also falls into the list of Belgian artists.

Corneille is one of the most important members and co-founders of the Cobra group (1948–1951). The well-known avant-garde movement that was founded by Northern European artists and which was strongly influenced by the naive, expressive art of children, folk art and primitive art.

After the dissolution of the Cobra group in 1951, Corneille continued with his work and developed his own style that further explored his use of color and form. He remained active in the art world and was internationally known. His works can still be found in important museums, such as the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and the Musée d’Art Moderne in Paris.

Corneille is often considered one of the most important post-war Belgian artists and is respected for his contributions to the development of modern art in Europe.
